I was just wondering if anyone might have suggestions or thoughts as to how to "soften" the rubber seal inside the cap?
Has anyone ever accomplished softening or finding a way to replace it and with what?
I've got a box full. The chrome part is good, but the rock hard rubber seal inside makes them useless, other than for show.
Thanks all,
Jeff May

Throw them in a crock pot with a mixture of water and wintergreen oil for a couple of hours. Does wonders.

Wintergreen oil...You know, someone told me that years ago...I could not for the life of me remember what or how...I take it just put the crock pot on its lowest setting?
I will track down some wintergreen oil today and give it a try. Many Thanks Dan...Jeff

The water is just a vehicle for the wintergreen oil so I don't think the ratio matters much. 3 to 1 should work (water to oil)...or enough to cover the parts.

I tried the wintergreen oil trick. Yes, it softened the rubber. However, after a few weeks the rubber in the cap started to get hard again.
But it does soften the rubber and the shop smells good...LOL...
