I was just wondering if anyone might have suggestions or thoughts as to how to "soften" the rubber seal inside the cap?
Has anyone ever accomplished softening or finding a way to replace it and with what?
I've got a box full. The chrome part is good, but the rock hard rubber seal inside makes them useless, other than for show.
Thanks all,
Jeff May

Throw them in a crock pot with a mixture of water and wintergreen oil for a couple of hours. Does wonders.

The water is just a vehicle for the wintergreen oil so I don't think the ratio matters much. 3 to 1 should work (water to oil)...or enough to cover the parts.

Should this work with spark plug boots and covers? Like on Clinton E-65?

I tried the wintergreen oil trick. Yes, it softened the rubber. However, after a few weeks the rubber in the cap started to get hard again.
But it does soften the rubber and the shop smells good...LOL...
