Hello guys, does anyone have a steering shaft and three spoke wheel for a 1961 Bug Wasp?

I’m ready to start restoring my kart and I have to remove the front bumper that is not original and relocate the pedals back to their original location.

The location of the tie rods was also altered along with the steering wheel which was welded onto the shaft.

Thank you!

Kino,
The steering wheel on your Bug kart is from the later Bug karts like the sidewinder "Stinger" model.  I purchased one from Bug 5 or 6 years ago when they were closing their kart business to use on my son's Stinger restoration (when I get to it!).
The steering wheel on your kart would have been similar to the Grant steering wheel in the link below.  I purchased one from a marine shop in California a few years ago for my 1963 Bug Wasp, but I can't remember the name!

Good Luck!

Hi Terry. Here’s another 1961 Bug Wasp that has the same steering wheel wheel so I thought mine was also the original wheel. At some point someone welded the top cap on and moved the steering tab up which made it impossible to remove without cutting off the welds.

Is it possible this same wheel was used on the Wasp as well as your Stinger?

Thank you!

Kino,
After looking at some info. I had, the Steering wheel was a "Covico" steering wheel sold by "Rex Marine".  It looks like the Black one is NOT Available.
Now I remember there was a thread on this website or "Vintage karting" forum where some folks were trying to get Rex marine to make some more of these wheels.  Try searching on here or the other site for "Covico" steering wheel or "Rex Marine.  The Rex marine link is below.

Good Luck!
Terry

This is the pic of the other 1961 Bug Wasp that has the same steering wheel. Hold on. I’ll upload it. This was on YouTube at one point and came with the painted wheel whereas some came with the wheel like mine.
