Where were the karts? Not a very good turn out. Nice track to run and a nice setup. Turnout was poor.
For many maybe the idea of racing scares some people away. Maybe they think they are to old or don't have enough knowledge or ability or what ever. Let me say this. Sat. was practice all day. Many times the track was empty. If you have limited track time or racing knowledge there was plenty of time to run even if you didn't want to race. Heck i raced plenty and still do and stunk the place up so don't worry about your perfomance. Even if you don't plan of running come on down and meet people and look at karts and learn. Pretty darn cool event and could have been far better if even another 20 had showed up. But 27 karts for the event, really?

Thats too bad. I recently got an early 80s BKS but couldn't get it ready in time, I'm building an 820 for it.. I'm shooting for the Sept. Brodhead event. I'm new to vintage karting. I owned a 95 Coyote awhile back and ran it on practice days so thats my only experience, but I have raced MX so if I can do that I'm not afraid to embarrass myself on the kart track.

John, That sounds great. We plan on being at the Brodhead fun night also. It seems I need more tuning time than driving time so every lap seems important. One thing is for sure, when you take the track the Kart runs only as fast as you want to go. Run up front or just hang out in the rear. The most important part is if at the end of the day or night, you can say "I had fun"!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the VKA scheduling back to back weekends in the same general area (midwest) with Dousman and Camden,OH. is a factor. I chose this coming weekend, could not make both on successive weekends. Just my two cents worth.

It's easy to spend a bunch of money each time out even if you dont break .
Each event for us is between 800 to 2000 mile trip .

I understand the expense part and the travel distance involved for many. which part of that is why I will only get in 3 VKA events dates this year. however it was also mentioned how many Vintage karters are in the area or close enough to attend and if only 1/2 (within 150 miles)had showed up it would have been a boost. Maybe next time around. I am hoping to get one more involved from the family so there are 3 of us.

Steve,
Rome wasn't built in a day.
getting the word out is a big process.
i've been advertising Cuddebackville since last race last year.
I'll be thrilled to get over 30 since VKA "forgot' that VIR had been scheduled the same weekend.
The good news is VIR is a calender jumper at a different time every year.
regardless the guys that go will have a blast since track time is all i'm about and we'll get plenty.
TBO , one of THE biggest events for vintage started with maybe 15-20 karts.
Scotts event in Avon had about 35-40 first try and is slowly growing.
for us east coasters wi. is just impossible.
the Camden event is a stretch but we'll be there since TBO is out for me this year.
But i think Gary hit it on the Head.
Too many Events in a close area is a deal killer.

I actually meant to close time wise...some are a week apart....but then ya got Whiteland,New Castle, Camden and Circleville, so I get Davids point.... , the travel is expected...I like to keep it under 10 hours,,,well, sept for Jacsonville and Barnesville.... and then when you factor in your exteneded family(at 2 classes each...at 100 bux an entry, motels, food, fuel ...and thats not talkin any kart parts.... well, you get my drift...still to much fun,,,not bitchin ,,,just tell'in it like it is....

I just heard from one person that didn't attend and it appears the problem stems from past problems with track members during a VKA event. I won't mention any names but i can understand the problem when fully explained from the local point of view. It does kind of spoil an event though for others that have no clue. Oh well, prepare now for the Brodhead Fun day then Quincy and Delmar

Hi Steve,
To us the real issue is how close in time the events were scheduled to each other. If there were 2 weeks between the events we would make them both. But 5 days between events put us in a position of having to choose. We naturally chose the closest event for us which is Dousman. We had a great time in spite of the very low turn out and the people whom ran the event were fantastic. The corner workers were on the ball, the flag man did a great job, and registration was fine. I spoke to almost everybody, if not everybody involved in the running of the event and they were all very nice and helpful. So what ever the club issues were historically, they seem to be resolved. They did a great job and should be commended.

Thanks Vern. I would have to agree with you on this. I am glad you chimmed in. Always glad to see you. For me the low point was my personal running. Lean, then rich, then lean, way rich. I think I have the issue solved. Spark plug wasn't tight enough allowing an air leak depending on if the engine was hot or cold. Of course the broken chain in the first heat didn't help. New chain too. From now on I'll only run RLV g0ld.
