It has taken long enough (nearly a year, but who's counting?). I picked up a Super 44a saw (very similar to the MC-10 kart motor) that I have been working to convert to a kart motor. At one point I got the saw to fire up, but it wouldn't idle down and raced like it had a leak. I tore it apart and replaced the gaskets and seals (the culprit was the flywheel side crank seal) and buttoned everything back together. Today I finally had a chance to fire it up and to my surprise it idled and only screamed when I opened the throttle. I am beyond excited. I have a lot of work (by my standards) to do to get it ready to go on the kart, but I thought I'd put some good news out there.

Steve, I might be interested in some of your parts if you have any left. I'm also working on a second motor (1-51 saw 80cc motor) and need a stuffer and intake for it. Baby steps though, I've got to get one motor successfully going first.
About the clutch. This 44a has the tapered shaft like the karts. I had a gear welded to the original clutch bell, but it was a 12t gear and I ended up trading it away for other parts. If I can get another bell I'd have a 9 or 10 tooth gear welded to it. Until then I have a 9-tooth direct drive gear that I'm going to try.
I would like to see the pictures of what you did on the stub shaft Macs since that's what I have on the 1-51 saw I'm eventually going to convert.
Dave, what are you going to do with 10 49's?! Sounds like fun. Ultimately I think I'd like to run small duals on my Dart, but I've got to get one going before I can have two.

well now hadn't really considered what to do with them yet.
we're actually gonna have 12 i hope when the smoke clears.
the ones with roached bores are going to get 9 ported and opened exhausts.
then off to terry ives where he'll redo the bores and will fit new pistons to the bore.
a couple may be spoken for as the so called stroker mc49 cheater motors.
my "cheaters" will have a clear tell somewhere stamped on the block so there's no real cheating done.
2 are going to Bill Mack for a trade he needs to do.
one goes to Mike everin and another goes to a customer i won't name but he's a really good guy.
the rest i suppose i'll sell or use.
i am seriously considering a few karts being set up as arrive and drive rentals for the mc49 class.
seems a good way to let new guys get their feet wet without a giant investment and so forth.
so far i have a early rupp abone,a bug , a fox satalitte seat box mount ,a kavalla,a neil kart and at least one gk800 i could use.
probably would rent a max of 4 per event if there were enough takers.
figure i should have four spare motors along for the just in case stupid stuff.
i need to get the legal crap all straight first as i can't afford to be getting sued .
just kinda thinking out loud i guess.

The converted cranks from Terry are very nice. He does them on an exchange basis. I have one here for Charlie's Mc101D. TJ
