Just like mine, the last of the Panther X models with removable front bumper, reverse brake mount and 1 1/8 tubing.

Since the pic's are decent, I'll print them and compare them to my Panther which is 2 hours up the road. It's never really been determined exactly which Panther it is. Even Ms. Atkinson at Margay was not sure. She said that their records for that block of manufacturing years are not that good.
Is there anything really distinctive in the design and manufacturing other than what Robert mentioned (removable front bumper & 1 1/8" tubing) that seperates a Panther X from the other Panther models? Anything unique? Keith said it could possibly be an Expert but I don't think so.

It's not a Pro X. I attached a pic of a Pro X. it's on the bottom row. You can see the difference in the rear seat hoop and the 3rd bearing is in the middle.
I believe it is a Panther X (third version aka last version like Robert said), or Special Panther X known as Am Pac, or possibly a 79 Expert.
I learned from Mike that I have the second version of Panther X and the third version was more like the Expert.
Either way still looks like a good kart. Good find Tony

Mark/Phil thought this was settled on a previous thread a couple of weeks ago! The last PantherX design had the removable front bumper. Please take note of current listing on Ebay (400298139725) of the PantherX brochure. Yes that bumper removes(please note the attached photo of my kart with newly chromed front bumper). Compare to brochure. The kart in Atlanta would not be even the earliest Expert because they had closer together frame rails and the rear did not rise upward like this kart.

to add to the confusion AmPac's (american package) were all left handed engine mount karts as far as i've been told.
they also have a wedge welded onto the frame for the motor mount, a big departure from the standard tube.
if you guys really really really want pics of an ampac i'll drag my lazy bones downstairs and take some pix.

Hi Guys. If this is the "last" model of the Panther-x there are a lot of changes. The frame rails narrow in the front where they bend for the spindle hanger and the three position pedal mount, long front porch has been eliminated. The front lower steering shaft mount is also different. 1 1/8 tubing rather than 1". I wonder if the motor mount rails are still the pinched (3/4") narrow rail. What is a Panther-X PRO kart??? Anyways all the debate aside the kart was a great buy for Tony and I`m sure he`ll put it to some very good use. Phil.

From the desk of Don Freber hand written to me.
The am-pac with LMR was 1978
Panther X with 1 inch axle 75-76 and also says 79
Colors i am not sure about i think they had orange, blue, black, and Don told me they made a few yellow for Gary and Linda Emmick when they was running for Margay..
The last version of Panther X had two pedal position. What does your kart have Tony?
Looking at pictures the front bumper mounted on spindle bolts. Not sure if all did or just this picture i have.
Hope this helps

Hey Mike-
Weren't the Emmick's building their own karts by '75? I am pretty certain Linda drove a New Breed back in '69 when she won her National Championship, but I didn't know that they continued much after that. I thought they were using the Zip cloned Invaders and then they started building their own.

Dan,
I think you are right on that. Don told me he did some yellow one for Emmick but that surely had to be before the Panther X. We was talking Panther X and maybe he just misunderstood what i was asking him..
