You dont need to worry about sealing the tapered rollers. Just make sure you have a dust shield close to the outer diameter. DONT pack the bearings with grease and DONT run the nuts down tight. Just add a drop of some thick oil each time you run the kart. To adjust the bearings, run down the nut with your fingers until it just stops without resistance. Then back up one cotter pin slot. Its OK if the wheel has a slight bit of play.
I road raced for a decade with tapered rollers, both 5/8 and 3/4, even with front brakes. Ran them on Hornets, Tricks, and Emmicks. With the way I described to adjust they would not even be warm after an hours road race.

K&P (Bug) used 3/4" tapered rollers for years. My '75 Series II Wasp still had them. My '78 Black Widow was the first Bug kart I bought that had 5/8" ball bearings. The Molybdenum disulphide black grease (Moly MP) is fine in tapered rollers, and lasts several races (serious races) before needing to be replaced. It's thin enough to cause no drag problem. We ran Moly at B-Limited street race speeds for years with never a sign of bearing overheat. Ted
