An Xterminator is probably the most difficult kart to restore-ask Ron Cubel. That one on Craigslist has a lot of extra holes in the aluminum. Those are hard to repair. If you weld them up, then you cannot match the anodize color-again ask Ron. The stamped parts are highly succeptable to fatigue cracks. If you have to disassemble any part of the main frame to repair it, remember that the original rivets aren't that easy to find, and you need skill to be able to set them. Also remember that there MANY old karts out there that will outhandle the Xterminator by a mile. Don't tell me about Bobby Allen winning the World Championship at Nassau! Bobby was an exceptional driver, and the course at Nassau was more like an enduro track than a sprint track.

Ya gotta remember that other folks have a different opinion than mine about the handling. I like the flexible frame karts best, but that's my opinion. The bit about repairing an Xterminator is NOT an opinion-I've watched and helped Ron Cubel with his. He's restored several of them. They're valuable when restored, but a nightmare to rebuild!

I posted in case someone else was interested. I have a bunch of RSS feeds setup with craigslist going to a separate email. When something I think might interest people here on the forum pops up I post as FYI. Of course, if I stumble onto something 10 miles from my house I might just have to go get it, if the wife is not watching too close.

I'm in the middle of two restorations; a nice old clark kart for my daughter with a 4 stroke briggs, and a bug sprint for me, so I have my hands full right now.

The exterminator seems to have some fans out there. Based on Ron's experience, not a project to be taken on by the uninformed!

Have to say, I've been around some other forums and some of the posts turn into flame wars, but this group really seems to engage in a respectful discourse about a shared passion. Even when opinions differ, people are respectful. I can't wait to get my project track ready and go to an event, as much as to get in some track time as to meet some of the people who've been helpful getting me up to speed.

I have two, but one of them is heading for college... she's past her interest in karting. The third time I rebuilt that clark was for her.

we're poking fun at the guys with the

VALUABLERARE VINTAGE RACING GO KART
for the low low price of a zillion dollars

Keep posting leads i do regardless of the price.
some will be made fun of others will get someone what they need.
the whole it's a really valuable "piece" is getting outta hand.

here's a good example:
at the swap meet saturday i saw a guy buy a mc49 for 5$.
just missed it myself by seconds.
i offered him 40$ for it right then and there.

after some thought he refused my offer.
he was a reseller and figured it was worth more.
thing is the motor was STUCK as in corroded into one piece.
the gem motor mount was the only interesting thing.

later on i saw the same motor at a known resellers booth.
he was asking $300.00 for it and said he'd ask more but it's stuck.
i said good luck with that.
a STUCK motor is basically ruined and beyond saving.

soooo here i am making fun of that too!!!
i'm not gonna say he shouldn't try for that price i'm just saying it's silly.

maybe if there were another 5 or 6000 vintage karters around that would be valuable.
as things stand we're still a small hobbist group doing our thing.

dave where was the swap meet ..did you make it to ohio ..?? i went but it never stopped pouring the whole way there so i continued on to youngstown and picked up another hoffco hurricain so it wasnt a total waist of time ..ill be posting pics i have 3 hoffcos for sale now a rupp dead axle,simplex challenger mark 5,alley kat ,and a couple or four other karts ..

nope never made ohio.
in a way it was lucky as my automatic tranny died last friday.
am looking over shops trying to decide who to send it to.
probably gonna go with a jasper rebuild ($3000 +)as i like the three year warrantee.

swap meet was in mass.
never been to it before my buddy mike everin told me about it.
he was a little steamed about me getting there before him and buying everything.
not really

was fairly big we walked about three miles total by my cousin freds walking machine recorder.

i might be interested in a couple of your older karts but cash i had is going for tranny work.
karts will have to wait.
