I found 2 derelict karts in my brother's back yard. He's constantly buying and selling interesting old stuff. Even he doesn't know why sometimes. He says he bought these karts from an aquaintance who actively raced them in the sixties. When the racer finally decided to divest, my brother took the best two of 4 karts. I've done some research here and on other sources. Based on specs and pictures, I believe one kart is a mid sixties Rupp Grand Prix. The other looks like a similar vintage Rupp Lancer. The primary tip-off is the two piece frame on both. I'm guessing they're both either 1964 or 65. The Grand Prix is in better shape than the Lancer. Interestingly, the Grand Prix appears to have a fully chromed 2-piece frame. I haven't read anything about such a frame from Rupp. It has the Rupp turbine wheels, 5/8" steering shaft, chrome large fuel tank, Nassau panel with the Rupp name plate. My original plan was to hack these with a couple of Honda air compressor motors for the grandkids. However, after researching, it seems a shame to defile these examples of karting history. Would you turn either one into a yard kart? |

Both chassis are pretty close to original so they would make excellent restoration projects and both are very popular and desirable with the vintage karters. If you sell them here or on ebay or some other site you'll get good money for them and you can take those funds and get something safe and reliable for the grandkids to play with. Hard to predict but its a pretty good bet you'll get at least $500 for each chassis just as they are. Where are you located? Steve O'Hara |

Thanks for the info Steve. I'm going to see if I can find the original owner and get the full story. The fully chromed GP is unusual and I know it was a racer. It may have an interesting history. The karts are located in Northeast Massachusetts. Cheers. Bob. |
