Among the suppliers West Bend used for recoils starters was Fairbanks-Morse. To me, it looks like that's what you have. If so, you should be able to obtain parts from any mower shop that has F-M parts (I assume they supplied other engine mfrs, not just WB). They're still in business, http://www.fairbanksmorse.com/ I suggest calling Bob at Bob's Lawnmower Engine Service, 607-638-9297. That man lives and breathes small engines. You could also contact David Fillman, david@fillmanmachining.com. The last time I spoke with him, he had plenty of F-M recoil starters. The WB580 was used on thousands of "jumping jack" soil compactors (tampers) over the course of a few decades, so for WB580 stuff you may also have success calling places that sell parts for that type of equipment.
