To remove varnish, lacquer thinner works if still gooey. If hard and cRusty, use phosphoric acid(concrete cleaner and metal prep) and small gravel(aquarium rocks) for steel tanks. Leave out in the sun and shake often. Azusa has steering shaft kits.
