kieth, look at ebay right now several west bend motor blocks and parts are up. check item # 190216442575 he has several blocks and associated parts you may be be able to use.as for my karts. i'll always prefer to run what i've got. be it perfect or a rat. since theres not enough time this year to do any full restoring so i'm gonna rattle can a couple and run them safe first. later ,there's plenty of cold time were i live to finish the restoring but now is not it!!!!! but i will i take back racing the kart in this thread. if it's that rare you might want to put it in a glass box and display it. just kiddig do what you feel is right. though when the rathman exterminator is done being restored be sure i'll race it. Remember the promoter that books a track for vintage meets needs something to sell to the spectators. if everyone parks their kart theres no show and then we might well have to go into a big hall for display only like the harley's do anymore. it would be a shame if vintage karts were silenced for fear of scratching them. so, my point is that these karts are and were for racing. whether you thrash them or putt around the track last in the pack they should be allowed to do what they were created for. i see alot of people talking on these forums about restoring and i wonder if i'll ever meet them at a track. and if i do if will they be talking about their karts or how much they invested in them. i truely hope it stays about karts and racing (or putt-ing) and not trophy's and money. on buying parts there are guys around that are looking to make a "killing" on vintage stuff. be wary of the "i saw it sell for this much on ebay" people. they're usually over hyping what they've got. if it's that valuable they'd be on ebay for the $ instead of doing you a "favor" a guy they don't even know. the way it should be but usually isn't the best mac 91 engine , motor mount, clutch, carb, and pipe i ever bought was a surprise. the fellow qouted a fair price ($450)and i bought it site unseen. he forgot to mention it was nos and perfect. i was shocked when i got it. he said since i was gonna use it he'd decided to take a bath. he's welcome anytime he wants to stop by for a couple of hot laps with it in my book. on finding parts i find these parts all over the place. in my state places near and far. out of state with 100's (maybe thousands)of miles traveled. i've been to more small towns in obscure places now then when i was young and crazy. i look around ask alot of questions and listen to people who may know someone who has an old kart kinda thing. i ask the old guys in the kart clubs people i just meet random farmers whatever it takes. by doing this i've bought great perfect - n.o.s. parts and i've bought stuff that needs work. lots i don't need but figure some one else can use. but selling it is a whole other story. i'm sick of ebay postage whiners and cheapskates already and people on the forums aren't willing to ask for parts. sooo, i know for me and many like me your best chance at these parts will be at a race where i'm at. especially if i have something i want to buy there too!! so again i'll say it get ot there have fun and support the meets/races. you might even find that little bit or piece yer looking for. the best way for tracks to be opened to vintage guys is by being at the tracks that'll have us. sorry for the rant dave
