Chris Sahagian's 1967 Margay New Breed

This restoration was recently completed. Chris Sahagian of Warwick RI acquired this kart in March 2000 kart (from Bob DiNozzi, the Vintage Karts site Editor). Since then, he disassembled refinished the kart in Margay blue, and build it back up (in time for the VKRA Nationals in August 2000.) He rechromed the bumper and spent hours polishing "everything that was aluminum". Great job Chris. Can't wait to see this one run. Ought to be a terror in the single engine class!!

Features include Margay's own design gear box, pedals, hubs and clutch, and a very potent hydraulic disk brake. Frame design features a slick shock mounting system (suspension) attaching rear assembly to the chassis.

The bar was truly raised for kart design when Margay entered the scene with this model (the New Breed) as well as their Sidewinder model. Through clever frame design, Margay achieved a lower driver seating position (lowering the overall CG) as well as featuring top-notch mechanicals.Quite a bit of design evolution in the 2 years between 1965's kart to beat (Rupp Grand Prix) and the 67 Margays. This is the kart when Chris acquired it from Bob DiNozzi (March 2000):
